Haiku Stairs also known as stairway to Heaven or Haʻikū Ladder, the 4,000 (or so) Stairs were structured in 1942 so antenna cables could be strung from one side of the cliffs of Haʻikū Valley to the other – Radio signals could get to the United States‘s Navy subs as far Tokyo’s shore (even when the submarines were submerged!).
In the year 2003,  the city repaired the stairs costing almost 1 million U.S dollars, yet currently there are no plan to open the stairs for public use, since it is still dangerous to climb, there are signs calling people not to climb, but most people reach there before the rangers gets there (6am) and climb anyway.
