Dead Sea is also known as salt sea. It is a salt lake bordering Jordan to the east and the west bank to the west. It is hyper saline lake which is a truly unique place. Meaning of Hyper saline lake is a landlocked body that contains significant concentrations of mineral salts or other sodium chloride with saline levels surpassing that of ocean water. Below sea level the surface and shores of the Dead Sea are 423 meters which makes earth lowest elevation on land.
It is one of the world’s saltiest bodies of water with 33.7% salinity. Although Garabgazkol, Lake Assal are some of the hyper saline lakes of the Mc Murdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica have higher salinities. The people can easily float in the Dead Sea due to natural buoyancy and unusually high salt concentration. It is same to the Great Salt Lake in Utah in the United States.
It is roughly 8.6 times Salter than the ocean. This salinity makes the bitter or rude environment in which animals cannot sweep or flourish. Due to high salinity stops macroscopic aquatic organisms such as aquatic plants from living in it and fish though minuscule quantities of bacteria and microbial fungi are present. If we talk about the Dead Sea length or range, it is 67 kilometers long and 18 kilometers wide. It has become a major center for health research and treatment for many reasons. It was a place of refuge for King David. It was one of the world’s first health resorts and for products it has been the supplier of a wide variety from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers.
